John and James went to visit one of our suppliers this week

Neil Hardy Aquatica Ltd – Trade Only are a wholesaler that predate most aquatic shops in the uk, being formed in 1982!

We got invited to visit the team and their incredible facility as we have been buying from them for around 8 years now and to see this behemoth in person is a true treat as a hobbyist! 😦

We got a hand guided tour by none other than Peter Hardy himself and honestly, the place is so huge, so technical and in-depth it is difficult for us to explain just how epic it really is.

The facility uses ground source heat pumps to supply heat for the entire facility, housing tens of thousands of fish and supplying a majority of the UK’s aquatic industry with livestock.

There are around 2500 tanks in this facility, and the rooms are kept at a toasty temperature.

The range of fish offered is unbelievable and it’s fish we have access to every single week!

We got a peak at a few filtration systems that are absolutely huge and water vats bigger than most people swimming pools.

Many fish are bred on site, we got a very cool look at the stages of angel and discus cichlids bred on site from adult breeding pairs, to rearing systems that are superb.

The amount of rooms is mind-blowing and they’re in the middle of an expansion so it’s only getting bigger

To give you an idea, when you get to the photos of rabbit snails, that tank is around 6 feet long and 4 feet wide and there’s tens of these that can be found in just one room 😦

We got lost every 10 mins, found a fish and lost them quickly after, the place is absolutely mind blowing in scale 😐

The team employs 16 members of staff working full-time to catch, bag and prepare fish for shipments to be sent across the entire mainland of the UK!

We’ve hand picked some beautiful fish that will be arriving with us next week alongside other fish.
